When Marvel Studios first announced the Marvel Cinematic Universe would expand to television on the Disney+ streaming service, it was unclear how these productions would compare to the big screen movies. Eventually, we learned each series would be limited to six-to-eight episodes. Now, it's been confirmed that Marvel's Disney+ television shows will have budgets on par with feature films.
According to Variety, the budgets will be "comparable to a Marvel film project, which typically run between $100 and $150 million."
The report goes on to say this was decided to keep the visual language of the MCU intact: "According to an individual with knowledge of the productions, Marvel Studios execs and [Marvel Studios President Kevin] Feige held meetings early on to discuss how to maintain the visual standard fans have come to expect from Marvel’s films while still bringing their budgets more in line with other TV shows. Those budgets will still be on the high end of the spectrum."
For comparison's sake, the budget for the first seasons of Netflix's Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist was roughly $200 million total for four seasons of 13 episodes -- or $3.8 million per episode. Therefore, the difference should be quite noticeable.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier plans to release in late 2020. Loki and WandaVision plan to release in early 2021. Disney+ is set to launch on Nov. 12, 2019.
