The Batman: Matt Reeves Confirms Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon

After nearly a month of rumors, The Batman director Matt Reeves officially confirmed Jeffrey Wright will play Commissioner James Gordon.

Reeves shared the news of Wright's casting with a GIF of the actor, along with a caption that read, "Tweet! #Gordon."

Wright is well-known for his role as Bernard Lowe in the HBO show Westworld. He has also appeared in films such as Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and 2. 

The character Commissioner Gordon was most recently portrayed on the big screen by J.K. Simmons in 2017's Justice League. Other actors that have played live-action versions of the character include Neil Hamilton, Pat Hingle, Gary Oldman and Ben McKenzie. At one point, it was rumored that Luke Cage's Mahershala Ali was being considered for the James Gordon role in The Batman.

The Batman recently added Zoe Kravitz for the role of Catwoman and Paul Dano as The Riddler. Jonah Hill was once said to be in talks about joining the cast, but negotiations reportedly fell through.

Starring Robert Pattinson, The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, who will also produce alongside Dylan Clark. While casting is still underway, the film is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021.
