James Gunn's Suicide Squad has recently released its full cast list and there's some fantastic names on there. As ever, fans have quickly begun to speculate as to who each of the these cast members could play. With such a wide variety of DC villains to choose from, imagination really is the limit for some of these choices.
While the original outing for this team proved divisive, it was not without its successes. While there may be some doubt in the franchise after the initial film, the addition of James Gunn as director, as well as this stellar set of actors, proves that Suicide Squad will be a lot of fun. With all the excitement online therefore, here's the top 10 fan castings for the Suicide Squad.
10 PETER CAPALDI - MR FREEZE
Peter Capaldi has built up a lot of credit amongst the sci-fi community in recent years after his stint as the Time Lord in Doctor Who. He's since starred in many other British films but this spells a return to blockbuster cinema. The older gentleman has a long list of potential characters to play.
Top of the list is Doctor Light who he has been rumoured for in the past. However, the best fan cast for Capaldi has to be the long time Batman villain Mr Freeze. The shaved hear has only added to the speculation but fans feel like he would be perfectly cast as the foe with a heart of ice but a vulnerability where it concerns his frozen wife.
9 JOHN CENA - PEACEMAKER
John Cena has been on the cast list for sometime now and fans have immediately gotten to one conclusion. The the man who looks like a super soldier is probably playing one. Fans have therefore thought that the wrestler would be a great fit for Peacemaker.
Peacemaker is a man who has descended into madness. He's willing to keep the peace by any means necessary. This usually ironically includes a lot of violence, with Peacemaker usually using these methods as the first option. Needless to say things aren't very peaceful around him.
8 DAVE BAUTISTA - BANE
Another wrestler on this list, Bautista has the physical build to play another Batman villain. Bane has been rumoured for the animal for some time, with the wrestling background of the antagonist brilliant for Bautista to physically play.
Bautista's amazing comedic timing could work particularly well for the character. Bane hasn't been played for laughs in the past, but with James Gunn at the helm expectations are sure to be subverted. This is a great fan cast and we hope to see it on the big screen.
7 IDRIS ELBA - BRONZE TIGER
Early rumours suggested that Idris Elba had been cast as Deadshot, recasting Will Smith's role from the original film. However, since the film is in canon with the rest of the DCEU, this is now looking much less likely.
Fans have quickly rallied around the notion that Elba could be playing Bronze Tiger instead. The character has a long history with the squad in the comics and has starred in the CW version of the team as well. Idris Elba would be great no matter what role he was in, but the complicated character is fitting of Elba's talents.
6 MICHAEL ROOKER - KING SHARK
Chris Sullivan has been named in the past as King Shark but that hasn't stopped fans for putting in their preferred pick for this underwater monster. With many assuming that the character will be CGI, rather than makeup like Killer Croc, they've picked out the voice they want behind the sharp teeth.
Michael Rooker's rough tones is therefore the perfect casting choice for King Shark. There would be no need to synthetically alter his voice as it's already such a great fit for the character. The only problem with this is that we wouldn't actually get to see Rooker on screen.
5 NATHAN FILLION - CAPTAIN COLD
Nathan Fillion's character could go one of two ways. It could be someone incredibly well known and become a focal point of the film. Or he could be killed off in the first five minutes. Rumours have circulated that Fillion is everyone from a Green Lantern and Booster Gold to some random unknown villains.
One character that keeps resurfacing when his name is mentioned is Captain Cold. The long term villain of the Flash has a lot of complexities and has actually come across as likeable in the past. He has charm and wit and could go from friend to foe in an instance. Fillion might be the ideal man for the job.
4 TAIKA WAITITI - CONDIMENT KING
Taika Waititi seems to be constantly in the public eye at the minute. He's starring in some truly big franchises and is taking on a number of comedic role. When it was revealed that he would be in Suicide Squad everyone assumed he wouldn't last very long throughout the film.
This got fans racing to find the kind of villain that Waititi could play that would probably have his head blown off within thirty seconds of being in the film. The top choice? The Condiment King. He's returned to prominence after a cameo in The Lego Batman Movie and this kind of dumb character is spot on for the hilarious actor and director.
3 ALICE BRAGA - COPPERHEAD
Alice Braga is a relatively unknown member of the cast but there has been rampant speculation on who the actor could play. Copperhead was introduced as a female in the Arkham Origins game and it's very possible that the character could be female once again.
Braga seems like a great choice to play Copperhead therefore. The Brazilian performer could physically inhabit the snakelike movement of Copperhead very well and has the right looks and acting talent to successfully carry off the manipulating and vile behaviour of the villain.
2 FLULA BORG - COUNT VERTIGO
Flula is another name on this list who may not last very long in the film's run time. With many of these cast members likely to get killed off moments after their debut, Flula is probably playing a villain that has very little value to the overall movie itself.
Originating from Germany fans were quick to speculate about which German characters would work well for the funnyman. Count Vertigo is the top choice for many, with the strange and quirky villain likely becoming even more ridiculous with Borg playing him.
1 DAVID DASTMALCHIAN - POLKA-DOT MAN
The Polka-Dot Man might have been rumoured for Suicide Squad before David Dastmalchian had even been announced for the cast. Nonetheless, as soon as his name was associated with the film everyone pointed to the wacky DC villain.
With the ability to throw his dots to create weapons, Polka-Dot Man is just a bizarre foe that will make for some great entertainment. Dastmalchian's comedic timing will help the character really work and his long history with comic book franchises means that he understands this weird world.
