A new still image from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teases a precarious situation for Kylo Ren and the First Order.
Released online by Empire, the full-sized image will appear in the magazine's upcoming November issue, which will be available Oct. 3. In it, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren is resisting an out-of-frame force that is wreaking havoc in a First Order hangar filled with tumbling stormtroopers. Whatever it is that's causing the disturbance, is also emitting a powerful blue light.
Another peculiarity of the newly released picture is that Kylo Ren is holding his reforged mask. His other hand is hovering over the floor to counteract the force that's pushing everyone back.
The article the image accompanies features a quote regarding Kylo's mask from The Rise of Skywalker co-writer Chris Terrio. "When ren takes off his makes, there's a nakedness about him with Rey that he doesn't express to anyone else." That being said, it remains to be seen if Rey is involved in this particular scene.
Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives Dec. 20.
