Marvel Comics has partnered with Games Workshop to produce new comic books based on Warhammer 40,000, Games Workshop's popular miniature wargame.
News of this collaboration was broken by Games Workshop on the official Warhammer Community website. Past the initial announcement, however, it appears the game manufacturing company is currently not at liberty to reveal any new details. That being said, it was able to reveal that Marvel's Warhammer 40K comics are expected to arrive next fall.
For the uninitiated, Warhammer 40K is a tabletop game introduced by Games Workshop in 1987. In it, players simulate battle using miniature models of warriors and vehicles. Warhammer is set in the distant future, with its story revolving around a stagnant human society being antagonized by aliens and supernatural creatures.
Warhammer 40K is considered to be the world's most popular miniature wargame in the world, though has the most dedicated playerbase in Great Britain - its place of origin. It has spawned numerous spinoffs and tie-ins, including other tabletop games, video games, music, novels and even an animated film. A live-action television series is also currently in the works.
Furthermore, this new collaboration with Marvel certainly isn't Warhammer's first foray into the world of comics, with previous comics and graphic novels set in the game's universe previously being released by the likes of Titan Comics.
Marvel's Warhammer 40,000 comics are expected to launch in fall 2020. There is currently no information regarding stories and creative teams. Games Workshop has promised to deliver new details as soon as they become available.
