A recent Star Wars-related tweet from Ivanka Trump -- daughter and senior advisor of President Donald Trump -- did not sit well with longtime franchise star Mark Hamill, who has starred as protagonist Luke Skywalker since George Lucas' original 1977 film.
Trump shared a picture of herself and her husband, Jared Kushner, alongside their children - one of whom is wearing a Stormtrooper costume. Trump wrote, "The Force is strong with my family." In response to this, Hamill quote tweeted the post, adding, "You misspelled 'Fraud.' #GoForceYourself."
Hamill has long been critical of the Trump Administration, oftentimes mixing his criticisms with humor. In the past, he has declared Star Wars baddie Darth Vader to be preferable to Donald Trump, as well as read Trump's tweets in-character as DC's Joker (on multiple occasions.) Hamill also suggested his late co-star Carrie Fisher should replace Trump on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, should the President's star be removed.
Hamill has appeared as Luke Skywalker in five Star Wars films, debuting as the character in 1977's A New Hope and most recently reprising his role in 2017's The Last Jedi. He is expected to reprise his role once more in The Rise of Skywalker, which will conclude the nine-film Skywalker Saga. The actor is also well-known for voicing the villainous Joker in various DC projects, most notably Batman: The Animated Series.
Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives Dec. 20.
