5 Cosmic Marvel Weapons That Are Way Too Overpowered (And 5 That Are Underpowered)

Advertisemen

Marvel comics are filled with all sorts of powerful weapons from deep in the cosmos. Many of these serve as either the chosen tools of great heroes and villains or simply the MacGuffins to carry on a story. Some of these weapons are so overpowered that it's almost ridiculous. Others are quite underpowered, and also underwhelming.

While the list of overpowered and underpowered cosmic weapons is incredibly long, there are quite a few that stand out. Here are five cosmic Marvel weapons that are way too overpowered and five that are underpowered.

10 Underpowered - Quantum Sword

Phyla-Vell can manipulate massive amounts of quantum energy. She can do this through the use of her Quantum Bands, powerful objects that have been passed down from other cosmic heroes.

What makes the Quantum Sword underpowered is that it's simply made up of Phyla-Vell's quantum energy. She could redirect this energy into powerful blasts from her hands, or a powerful shield surrounding and protecting her. Instead, she makes it into a sword which is no more powerful than any of her other uses of the bands.

9 Overpowered - All Black the Necrosword

All-Black is the first Symbiote to enter existence. Born from the shadow of the god Knull and empowered by the energy of a dead Celestial. In the hands of the alien known as Gorr, All-Black took on the form of a deadly sword with the power of slaying the most powerful gods.

This sword enhances the power of its wielder and was able to defeat countless gods, multiple versions of Thor, and even Galactus. The sword allowed Thor to defeat Galactus in only three blows.

8 Underpowered - Cosmic Ring

Forged from the ower of the Cosmic Cube, the Cosmic Ring inherited some of its reality-altering powers. The Cosmic Cube is one of the most overpowered weapons in all of existence (and will appear later on this list) with the ability to grant its user any wish he thinks of.

One would think that a ring crafted from the Cosmic Cube would be almost as powerful as the original. With the Cosmic Ring, however, this isn't the case. Surprisingly, the Cosmic Ring's reality-altering powers are limited to lackluster a 15-foot radius.

7 Overpowered - Ultimate Nullifier

During one of Galactus' attempts to consume the Earth, Reed Richards used the Ultimate Nullifier to scare the cosmic being and forced him to flee back into deep space.

Galactus knew that the Ultimate Nullifier is one of the universe's deadliest weapons, as it t can essentially destroy any target it's directed at, no matter how powerful that being is. If utilized by someone intelligent enough to focus the Ultimate Nullifier's power, it could destroy entire realities and alternate timelines.

6 Underpowered - Thunderstrike

Wielded by the mighty thunder god Thor, Mjolnir has gained a reputation as one of the best weapons in all of reality. In addition to Mjolnir, many other powerful Asgardian weapons have been crafted throughout Marvel history. One of these weapons was the mace called Thunderstrike.

Given to the human Eric Masterson so he could take on the powers of Thor, the Thunderstrike mace replicates many of Mjolnir's abilities. The only catch is it isn't nearly as powerful as Mjolnir, merely being a cheap knockoff.

5 Overpowered - Cosmic Cube

There are multiple Cosmic Cubes in existence, and they are essentially containment devices for vast amounts of raw energy. Through using these Cubes, one can manipulate reality itself, shaping the world into whatever he/she wants it to be.

Villains such as Thanos and Red Skull have used the Cubes to reshape reality in many dangerous ways. On one occasion, Red Skull used one to rewrite Captain America's history, making him a secret Hydra agent.

4 Underpowered - Phoenix Blade

There was a time when the Phoenix Blade had a portion of the Phoenix Force residing within it. This made the blade one of the most powerful weapons in the galaxy.

Since then, its powers have waned and it no longer contains much, if any, of the Phoenix Force energy it once had. Although initially it was used to destroy several galaxies worth of people, the Phoenix Blade now fails to live up to its namesake.

3 Overpowered - Infinity Gauntlet

Everyone knows how incredibly powerful the Infinity Gauntlet is. Harnessing the collective powers of the Infinity Gems, the Infinity Gauntlet gives its user near omnipotence.

Thanos, wielding the Infinity Gauntlet, was able to destroy half of all life in the universe. He also easily defeated Mephisto, Galactus, Death and a group of Celestials including their leader, the One Above All.

2 Underpowered - Cosmic Ghost Rider's Guns

Cosmic Ghost Rider has only recently been introduced into the Marvel canon,  and he has quickly become one of the most popular alternate reality Marvel heroes. Originally the vigilante known as the Punisher, Frank Castle went to hell where he was bonded with Zarathos. Then as the Ghost Rider, he joined up with Galactus and received a portion of the Power Cosmic.

With all of these abilities, one would assume that the Cosmic Ghost Rider would only use the most deadly weapons. When shown firing his two guns, it appears that Cosmic Ghost Rider is demolishing his enemies with some sort of enhanced firearm. This, however, is not the case. Frank Castle has retained his lifelong obsession with guns and continues to use them without any sort of enhancements. At times it appears he is firing off some sort of energy from them, but this still pales in comparison to the full range of Frank's power.

1 Overpowered - The Heart of the Universe

First shown in Marvel: The End, the Heart of the Universe is by far the most overpowered weapon to ever be shown on a Marvel comic book page. An energy source with unlimited power, the Heart allows its user to do anything.

During Marvel: The End, Thanos absorbs all of the Heart's power. In doing so, he does not merely attain ultimate power. Instead, the Mad Titan becomes one with everyone and everything. There is literally no way to stop him. Realizing the only way to save the universe would be to destroy and then rebuild it, Thanos does as much, reshaping reality exactly as it was.
