REPORT: Marvel Made Sony Cut Tom Holland's Venom Cameo | CBR

In the months leading up to the release of Sony Pictures' Tom Hardy-led Venom movie, there was endless speculation regarding whether or not Tom Holland -- the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man -- would make an appearance. Rumors of him filming a cameo circulated, but nothing ever came of them, with the final film containing no such appearance. As it turns out, however, Holland's Venom scene may actually exist after all.

Jay Washington of Collider Live reports Holland did, in fact, turn up on the set of Venom to shoot a scene as Peter Parker (not Spider-Man.) However, this sequence never saw the light of day, as Sony was apparently told to remove it from the film by Marvel Studios/Disney.

"I'll tell you the truth, Tom Holland did film a scene for Venom. I found this out," Washington said. "Marvel saw the movie and then was like, 'Take him out. Take the scene out.' Peter Parker was in Venom, not Spider-Man, Peter Parker."

If Washington's information is accurate, it raises several questions. Arguably the most pressing is if the purported Holland dispute in any way contributed to the recent demise of Sony and Disney's Spider-Man deal. Furthermore, with the partnership now kaput, you have to wonder if Venom's supposed "Holland Cut" will ever actually see a release. Finally, considering this report suggests there is technically precedent to Holland appearing in a non-MCU Marvel film, as well as the fact that Venom 2 is on its way, it should certainly be interesting to see what exactly Sony has planned for its Spider-Verse going forward.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom Stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, Sope Aluko, Scott Deckert, Marcella Bragio and Michelle Lee. The film is currently available on Digital HD and Blu-ray.
