The age-old battle of old versus new is the focus of a brand-new still image from the director Tim Miller's upcoming action sequel Terminator: Dark Fate.
The image features the T-800 -- played by longtime series star Arnold Schwarzenegger -- facing off against Rev-9, a dangerous new model of Terminator played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Gabriel Luna. A bloodied T-800 can be seen using his fist to pin Rev-9 against a wall, with the two android assassins meeting each other's harsh gaze.
"You can’t deny the announcement of a sixth film in a Terminator series is a cause for saying, 'Enough is enough; the well is dry,'" Miller told the LA Times. "At the same time, every fan of the series has this small kernel of hope that maybe this will be good."
Despite being the sixth film in the franchise, Dark Fate will serve as a direct sequel to 1991's Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Set 27 year later, the film follows Luna's Rev-9 -- a modified liquid metal terminator -- who is sent from the future by Skynet to eliminate the characters Dani Ramos and Grace (played by Natalia Reyes and Mackenzie Davis, respectively.) Dani and Grace are backed by none other than Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor and Schwarzenegger's T-800. And from the look of things, Luna and Schwarzenegger's Terminators are poised for a good, old-fashioned one-on-one showdown.
Directed by Tim Miller and produced by James Cameron, Terminator: Dark Fate stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Mackenzie Davis, Gabriel Luna, Natalia Reyes and Diego Boneta. The film opens Nov. 1.
