Sensei-Arc
So we are getting close to the end of Slime. With only 5 more episodes, we have charged into the next arc? Wait what? What about all of the other demon lords? Now we are doing cleanup teacher duty. So Rimuru decides to help out the children that Shizue took care of and heads off to a major city. He gets there, and freaks out about glass and automatic doors. So we learn that the head of the guild he is going to see knows everything about Shizue and after a weird scene about manga, Rimuru is off to teach the children. Learning about how they do not live long, he decides to figure out how to help them. This arc is weird. I feel as if these are going to be last people to join Rimuru aka he wins them over, and we get some sort of either epic battle with the other demon lords or they all return the the village with a “and we lived happily ever after”. Either way, the next couple of episodes will be lighthearted, but I am not sure how much we are going to get to see. I hope it turns out okay, but I hope it doesn’t end on this mellow/teacher note
Pets and Family
I’m really enjoying Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. so far this season. It reminds me of Miira no Kaikata what with its constant references to family and the like using a living creature, which, in this case, is a cat! Haru and Subaru are really getting to know each other and in this week’s episode, they both really start to think about each other as family. First for Subaru, he is reminded of his own family, whom he lost, in Haru. Haru continuously teaches Subaru new things about people and living things, which he would never have learned if he stayed the recluse that he was. He remembers about family trips his mother wanted to take and how much his mother loved animals, even if Subaru himself did not really care for them. It’s cute to see that Subaru is starting to learn more about loving others and how it affects him on a personal level. For Haru, she’s learning more and more about what it’s like to live with a human and not just live for surviving. She merely viewed Subaru as someone who fed her, which kept her from starving on the streets like she was used to. Even the presence of her little brother in this week’s episode has helped to teach her more about what it means to live with humans and how these small actions in life can benefit both parties. Haru learned the meaning of her name and what she can do to make Subaru happy, which she never seemed to care for before. I think it’s a great, idealistic representation of what pets can do for you in your life.
From Red to White
Dororo is a story about our troubled hero Hyakkimaru and his quest to slay all monsters in order to regain his humanity. However, the seventh episode is quite different, and Dororo and Hyakkimaru are pretty much irrelevant. The main couple this time is formed by a spider-woman monster and a kidnapper who met by chance. At first, the monster was posing as a lady in distress just so it could feed on the man’s vital energy, but after learning this human was kind-hearted and nothing like the rest, it not only spared his life but also started liking him. For me, this odd love story is the best anime moment of the week just because it transcends its context, and proof of that is that you just forget who the main characters are and actually root for the outcasts. Sure, other ayakashi proved wrong and tried to kill Hyakkimaru and Dororo, but this one just wanted to be left alone and co-exist with humans… in a twisted way, that is. Although the monster doesn’t kill its victims simply so that they can recover their energy and thus continue feeding on them, you can’t say the first victim was suffering in any way. He even preferred the monster rather than his wife! Now be honest with yourself: weren’t you wishing the monster and the supposed kidnapper would escape from that village through the tunnel? I sure was! This time there was no blood festival, no money or food in exchange for said blood festival, and then again, the leading characters felt like they didn’t belong to the episode. However, Hyakkimaru did have some kind of reward though, being able to smile for a second. Misunderstood people remain the main theme in Dororo, but we can definitely enjoy other points of view!
The fight of the season?
After receiving their exam results, and Bakugo finding out he failed, he calls out Izuku for a private conversation and confronts him about having received All Might’s powers. All Bakugo wants is for Izuku to prove to him that he is worth the power of the hero they both admired as children. And so, Izuku is begrudgingly pulled into a shounen rival battle that will surely grace at least one of our future lists. During the fight, Bakugo keeps thinking of Izuku chasing him and always being weaker than him, he remembers how All Might told Bakugo he has what it takes to be a hero, and he remembers when All Might hit the nail on the head when he said “I know you’re angry because of Midoriya’s improvement”. He remembers that All Might encouraged him and told him Level 50 (meaning Bakugo) and Level 1 (Izuku) can’t improve at the same rate, thus reassuring Bakugo that he is indeed strong enough and All Might recognizes his talents. And yet.. He’s still so angry. But why? From the beginning, we’ve been wondering exactly why Kacchan hates poor little Deku so much… And after an all-out attack from his childhood friend, Deku decides to use his strength and push Kacchan away with a strong yet gentle block/shove. Deku can stand on his own now and that just pisses Kacchan more… (why are you so angry, kid!?) Izuku sees his friend on the ground after his defensive attack and reaches out to help Kacchan up. Of course, Kacchan swats his hand away wondering why he’s helping him and not fighting… why? And it finally happens, Bakugo spills his guts and faces all his issues as they come out like uncontrollable tears on a shoujo heroine’s face. “Why did I end up chasing someone who was always behind me? Why did you get strong and become acknowledged by All Might while I… ended All Might!?”. There it is! The angsty teen finally voices his emotions and we all get to understand. He feels responsible for All Might losing his powers because he was weak and got captured by the villains, thus leading to All Might losing his power and retiring. Bakugo cries and cries and all you want is to hug the poor boy. He admits to his feelings and not knowing what to do and his overall feeling of helplessness. And then, once the boys have said and heard enough, they decide to continue the fight, but it’s different this time. It’s a proper shounen rival battle! It’s exciting to see Bakugo grow out of his immature anger issues and (hopefully) backing off of Izuku. Things can only get better if these two finally become the friends they should be!
Finale
That's all for this week! Tune in next week!
