The CG adaptation of the beloved anime/manga franchise Lupin III by Monkey Punch is out in Japan this December, and the latest trailer indicates fans will be pretty happy with the film.
Featuring the eponymous master thief and his classic cast of supporting characters, including the gunslinger Jigen, swordsman Goemon and love interest Fujiko, the new footage doubles down on the high-octane action with the gang's skills on display across heists and breathtaking chase sequences.
Created in 1967 by Kazuhiko Katō, better known by his pen name Monkey Punch, the property has been adapted in various anime series and films across its 52-year history, including an acclaimed adaptation by prolific animated filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki.
With Lupin and his friends on the run from Inspector Zenigata now in glorious CG, Toho's upcoming film features a blend between faithfully rendering the colorful characters and showcasing the possibilities of the animation style with jaw-dropping action set pieces as Lupin launches his next globe-trotting caper.
Lupin III: The First is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Dragon Quest: Your Story). It is scheduled to be released in Japan on Dec. 6.
