Director Tim Miller planned to helm Deadpool 2 after directing its highly-successful predecessor, but ultimately left the project due to creative differences. He has now revealed how his plans for the sequel would have differed from director David Leitch.
In an interview for The Playlist's The Fourth Wall podcast, Miller discussed how he always wanted to focus on the relationship between Deadpool and Rusty, along with including “a [comic accurate] Cable who was 6 feet, 7 inches” tall.
While completely different from the final product, Miller's original plan for Deadpool 2 focused on Vanessa and Wade's story as well. The film would have explored the growing relationship between the two as Vanessa transformed into her mutant identity of Copycat from the comics. While the films teased her comic identity, it never made its way to the films. Miller continued to fight for her arc until he left the project. However, her story ultimately went down a different path.
David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Julian Dennison as Russell and Josh Brolin as Cable.
