Flames, a wave machine and James Cameron holding a 3D camera take the spotlight in the newest behind-the-scenes photo from the anticipated sequels to 2009's Avatar.
The photo is credited to Jon Landau, the producer behind the Avatar movies. The official Avatar Twitter account also recommended following Landau for future sneak peeks.
In the photo, Cameron can be seen knee-deep in moving waters, surrounded by active flames and a green screen, presumably shooting an action scene.
However, since not much information has been released about Avatar 2 and the films to follow, it's unclear which movie they're filming or what's actually going on.
Cameron did reveal that the first sequel would take place years after the original film and focus on the main characters Jake and Neytiri.
Written and directed by James Cameron, Avatar 2 stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Edie Falco, Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. The film is slated to release on December 18, 2020. Avatar 3 is expected to follow on December 17, 2021.
