The first photo of Riverdale's new season indicates an extremely emotional premiere.

Series executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted a photo from the Season 4 premiere of the CW teen drama featuring KJ Apa's Archie in a tearful embrace with his mother Mary, played by Molly Ringwald. The caption: "No words."

The photo is assumingly showing the Andrews family in the throes of grief, as the season premiere mourns the late Luke Perry, who played patriarch Fred. After the Beverly Hills 90210 star shockingly passed away in March at the age of 52, Riverdale elected for his onscreen counterpart to pass away as well, and "Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam" will focus on the town coming to terms with this surprising loss in their community.

The season premiere will also see a familiar face for those who were fans of Perry's previous work. Shannen Doherty was announced to guest star at the Riverdale panel at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego. The appearance has apparently been years in the making, as Perry worked with producers to try to get his 90210 cohort to show up in Riverdale since the jump.

Though Doherty's role and relation to Fred have yet to be revealed, Aguirre-Sacasa alluded to her playing a much bigger part than initially expected, teasing she would have scenes with the teenage characters that would bring about "a powerful moment of catharsis." Between his statement and the picture he tweeted, Riverdale fans should be prepared to start the season off with some tissues.

Returning to The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. EST, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols and Madchen Amick.
