DCEU: 5 Reasons We're Excited Steve Trevor Is Returning To Wonder Woman (And 5 We're Wary)

Wonder Woman 1984 is on the horizon, and so is Steve Trevor... somehow. While we might not know all of the details yet, we do know that Steve Trevor will be returning in the Wonder Woman sequel in some way. This certainly has some good aspects, along with some bad.

Today, we'll be going over five reasons that we're excited for his return, along with five reasons that we aren't so excited. Without any further ado, let's get into it!

10 Excited: The Chemistry With Wonder Woman

When it came to the original Wonder Woman film, Chris Pine was absolutely the best choice to play Steve Trevor. Pine and Gal Gadot had wonderful chemistry, and watching the two fight together was a treat (not necessarily the bloody parts, the cute stuff was a treat).

As such, Wonder Woman 1984 featuring the two back together again will be a great part of the film.

9 Wary: How Is He Back?

Then again, how and why is he back? There is so much that we don't know about Trevor's return. He clearly didn't make it out in the first film, there's no mistaking that. This means that Steve was brought back somehow.

There's also the fact that he hasn't aged a bit in the jump to the 80s. Something is certainly amiss here. Let's hope Wonder Woman can figure out what's going on here before it's too late.

8 Excited: Seeing Their Relationship Grow

While Steve, unfortunately, didn't make it out of the first film, he and Diana shared a lot of time together before he sacrificed himself. By the end, it was clear that the duo was in love with one another. When it comes to Wonder Woman 1984, the two will have a chance to rekindle that flame.

Patty Jenkins did promise that the sequel will have a great love story intertwined throughout. Are the subjects of that love story Diana and Steve? As of now, it seems likely. However, only time will tell.

7 Wary: Why Is He Back?

Sure, we don't know know how Steve is back, and that's a very important part of the equation. However, an equally important question to ask about Steve's return is: Why is he back?

As we previously discussed, he was likely brought back to life by someone or something, and that means that he was brought back for a purpose. He was likely revived in order to impair Wonder Woman or worse. Her love for him is strong, so seeing her back after all these years is sure to shake her up. Either way, there certainly isn't a positive reason that Steve was brought back.

6 Excited: He Was Great In Wonder Woman

Sure, there are plenty of things to be worried about when it comes to Steve and his return, but it isn't all worry. Let's be happy for a minute; Steve was a fantastic part of the original Wonder Woman film. He was a fun addition that brought an aura of levity to a war film.

He was dependable and insightful, and was a major piece of Diana Prince (he even coined the name!) being able to adapt to the human world. Sure, Steve coming back could be a bad thing, but he almost might just be another great addition to 1984.

5 Wary: He Could Be A Villain

Okay don't get too happy yet, there are still many more things that could be an issue here. He's most likely a villain. The reality is that he was likely brought back by someone to harm Diana (as we discussed earlier).

He certainly could be in cahoots with Kristen Wiig's Cheetah, or an unnamed villain that we don't yet know about. Either way, this isn't going to end well for anyone involved.

4 Excited: This Is Patty Jenkins

All-in-all, we don't need to worry too much about how or why Steve Trevor comes back in 1984. After all, we have Patty Jenkins back at the helm for the sequel, and we couldn't be more blessed.

This woman knows what she's doing, and she wouldn't bring Steve Trevor back unless it was for good reason. She's going to handle this situation very well, so we shouldn't have much to fear. She had her reasons to bring Steve back, but let's be real here, it's probably going to leave us in tears.

3 Wary: No Happy Endings

Let's be realistic though; this is not going to work out. There isn't going to be a happy ending for Steve and Diana at the end of this story. Steve is likely not himself, and he is probably being controlled or he isn't even the real Steve Trevor.

Things are just going to end up bad, worst of all for Diana. She's going to be hurt by the end of this. Hopefully, she manages to keep her emotions in check and not go full God Killer mode again. Well, unless there's a god that needs killing.

2 Excited: Maybe It Is All Real

Okay, but let us be hopeful for a second here. We deserve some joy. Maybe this is all going to work out. Maybe Steve just got revived out of love, and everything will be okay! He'll live out the rest of his life with Diana (who will long outlive him), and everything will be just wonderful.

Look, we know this isn't real, just let us pretend that everything is going to work out. It's totally not going to though.

1 Wary: Taking Back Part Of Diana's Arc

One final reason to be wary about the return of Steve Trevor is that it could be reversing a huge part of Diana's arc from the first film. His death is an integral chapter of what made her who she is today. As such, this might end up complicating Diana's life going forward, even past Wonder Woman 1984.

Let's hope that Diana is able to get to the bottom of why Steve Trevor is back before it's too late, and before she loses a part of herself in the process.
