Blumhouse and Universal's modern reimagining of the classic 1974 slasher film Black Christmas has unveiled its first trailer, bringing bloody thrills and kills to the holiday season.
As Hawthorne College descends into yuletide partying, a sorority is targeted by a sinister masked slasher, who uses everything from icicles to Christmas lights for lethal effect. However, in a twist from the original film, the killer quickly discovers these particular sorority sisters won't be going down without a fight.
The original Black Christmas predated John Carpenter's Halloween as one of the first major slasher movies. The 1974 film starred Margot Kidder, who went on to play Lois Lane, as one of the sorority sisters targeted by the killer.
Blumhouse officially announced its Black Christmas remake for modern audiences this past June. Judging by the trailer, the remake will pit sorority sisters against a nefarious cult led by the masked killer and Cary Elwes, who plays a twisted professor at the college.
Directed by Sophia Takal (Always Shine) from a script she co-wrote with April Wolfe (Widower), Black Christmas stars Imogen Poots, Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, Lily Donoghue and Caleb Eberhardt. It is scheduled to be released on December 13.
