The CW's adaptation of  "Crisis on Infinite Earths" will make an impact right from the start of The Flash Season 6.

Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen/Flash on the show, told ComicBook.com at Comic-Con International in San Diego that the titular hero would be visited by The Monitor in the show's Season 6 premiere, revealing the hero will have to make a sacrifice to save the universe.“I can’t spoil too too much because I haven’t read it yet,” Gustin said. “I’ve been teased a lot from our guys what it’s going to be. The Monitor shows up at the end of tour [sic] first episode and says the universe is in jeopardy and in order to save the universe, Barry Allen has to die. And Barry Allen doesn’t know about this deal Oliver made with the Monitor, either, so someone’s gonna die.”

In the comics, "Crisis on Infinite Earths" began when the Anti-Monitor devised a plan to eradicate all life in the universe. In order to combat this massive-scale threat, heroes and villains alike teamed up against the Anti-Monitor. With stakes so high, it was only natural that there were casualties. Many characters died, most notably Supergirl and Barry Allen. This led to Wally West taking on the mantle of the Flash.

The TV adaptation will deviate from the source material to some degree, but Barry's death has been teased by the showrunners for quite some time. Whether Allen will truly outrun death or perish in an act of heroism will only be revealed when the crossover finishes.

Returning Tuesday, October 8 at 8 pm on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet and Hartley Sawyer.
