C-3PO fans should be especially happy come the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker later this year, according to the actor who has played the character for over four decades.
"I'm front and center in this one, for a lot of it," said Anthony Daniels during an interview at Disney's D23 Expo. "That made me feel very happy, very excited. Because the stuff we do is magic. The inventiveness is superb."
Threepio has long been a beloved character in the Star Wars Universe, but his adventures have often been secondary to those of the franchise's human characters. The recently released teaser trailer for the upcoming film, though - and the glimpse of the character with sinister-looking red eyes - gave Threepio fans special reason for excitement.
Daniels has played the character in all nine primary films, and is the only actor in the franchise's history to appear throughout. The actor has also voiced the character in radio serials, cartoons, television specials, and theme park attractions.
Daniels is happy that the character he's best associated with is going out in the spotlight, and thinks his fans will be happy, too. "For me, and for Threepio, this is a very good bye-bye movie," Daniels added. "Enjoy."
Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives on December 20.
