Netflix has dashed hopes for a revival of its original series The OA following its cancellation. The premium streaming service has passed on the possibility of a movie to conclude the series.

The cast and crew of the series have been released from their contracts and, with the series produced and distributed by Netflix, it cannot be picked up for a third season from a different platform or network. In response to the outpouring of fan support following the cancellation news, star and co-creator Brit Marling posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram account.

The OA follows a young woman named Prairie Johnson, who suddenly reappears after having been missing for seven years. Referring to herself as the OA, or Original Angel, Prairie reconnects with a world that has moved on without her, while having access to different dimensions across reality.
