In His Dark Materials, daemons are physical manifestations of a human soul that take the form of an animal. During a person's childhood, their daemon can shift between different forms before settling as one type of animal in the person's adolescence.

His Dark Materials is directed by Tom Hooper and stars Dafne Keen as Lyra, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby. It doesn't currently have a release date, but rumors suggest it will premiere sometime in 2019. There have also been reports that the series has already been renewed for a second season.
