For many of the people who work with Disney, it's a dream come true. None more so than for Bobby Moynihan, who voices Louie Duck on DuckTales. The Saturday Night Live alum has a life-long love for Disney, which he's passed on to his daughter.
"That's something I enjoy a great deal," Moynihan explained during an interview with CBR and other outlets at the D23 Expo. "I've gotten to do a couple of things for this company, and they always treat you really well. Having a 2-year-old daughter who loves all of this stuff. ... I play Dude the Dog in the Descendants movies. I'm on Star Wars: Resistance and a couple other things coming up. I love doing it, I love coming to [D23]; this is my second of these. I don't want to go home after this."
A fan of the original DuckTales, and the Disney Afternoon programming block, Moynihan addressed which characters he'd like to see in the planned expansion of the reboot's universe in the third season. "I want people to start calling it the DCU -- the Duck Cinematic Universe," he said. "Mega-Volt is my favorite character. Any of those Darkwing Duck villains would be great, [like] Bush-Root! They're all great, they're all fantastic. Quacker-Jack. Those guys I really enjoy."
Moynihan also revealed the surprising Disney character he considers his dream role. "I want to be the voice of Figment," he said. "Let's bring back a Figment animated series." Figment is the center of "Imagination!" pavilion at the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World Resort. The character clearly stuck with Moynihan. "I miss him," he said.
A Disney fan since childhood, Moynihan reflected on how that love shaped his college experience. "College was just skipping class and sitting and watching Lion King all day," he said. "That really happened. I was a huge fan of all of it. I remember buying, when VCRs came out, buying Merry Melodies. It was like, $99 for a VHS tape. I saved up all my money; it might as well have been $12 million for a Merry Melodies tape that, looking back, was only like 20 minutes long. It was not a great idea."
Moynihan has become a father since the premiere the DuckTales reboot, which has changed how he views Disney. "I've come to Disney a couple times with my daughter, and I've realized just how special it is," he said. "We've had a couple of trips to Disney recently, and it was my first time back in a while. The first time back, I was like, 'This place is so great.' But the second time, I was like, 'This isn't for me anymore, this is for watching my daughter enjoy it.' Now it's 90 percent for my daughter, and 10 percent for me buying stuff at Galaxy's Edge."
"Webby alone is my favorite character," Moynihan revealed, "and I can't wait for my daughter to be old enough to understand how great she is. I'm definitely pushing it. She has lots of DuckTales stuffed animals. She hasn't really gotten into it yet. DuckTales is all adventure, and I want to give her a chance to slow down. I will, trust me, I'll be there every day being like, 'Huh, how about that Louie?' And she'll be like 'I like Huey!'"
Returning Sept. 3 on Disney Channel, DuckTales stars David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, Kate Micucci, Beck Bennett, Tony Anselmo and Toks Olagundoye.
