In 2016's Captain America: Civil War, actor Tom Holland made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. Since then, he's gone on to prove his take on the web-slinger is unlike anything we've had in live-action before. However, the Far From Home star is also open to giving fans an even more diverse portrayal of Spidey in the MCU.
"Yeah of course. I can’t talk about the future of the character because honestly I don’t know and it’s out of my hands," Holland told The Sunday Times when asked if he thinks his iteration of Spider-Man could be gay. "But I do know a lot about the future of Marvel, and they are going to be representing lots of different people in the next few years. The world isn’t as simple as a straight white guy. It doesn’t end there, and these films need to represent more than one type of person."
Holland's comments should prove refreshing for those hoping for a more inclusive landscape as the MCU heads into Phase Four.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film is in theaters now.
