Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2 (Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2) Introduction

Erwin’s plan on overthrowing the present royal family and installing Historia as its new queen from the first part of season 3 has worked, but it doesn’t mean everything has stabilized as of yet. The Scout Corps still has to deal with the threats of the Beast, Armor and Colossal Titans, and reclaim Wall Maria, or the Trost District. It’s going to take everything they have and neither team is going down without a fight, but this time, it’s not just the quantity of the sacrifices that make the difference but the quality that will forever turn the tide of Attack on Titan as it means learning the truth about the world they are living in.

1. Every Character Has Their Use

This series is reputable for its ensemble cast. However, nearly every character featured has their use and role to play no matter how big or small. Some characters are there to die in vain, and through that character’s death, you see how cruel the world they live in can truly be. You see what war really is. Attack on Titan knows how to make use of expendable characters, and why that’s not a bad way to tell a story. As it pertains to the main cast, you see how each character has developed into their respective roles and their relationship with the rest of the cast.

2. You Learn More

After nearly 60 episodes going back to season 1, audiences finally learn the truth of the world they live in. Ever wonder where the Titans come from? Want to know the truth about Eren’s father? Hell, who is the Beast Titan? All of your questions (unless you have read the manga) are going to be answered in this season. While some elements are predictable, it does add more stakes to the story and adds a completely new dimension in expanding and developing it. On the other hand, it does have some unpredictable elements that will throw you off emotionally.

3. The Relationships

If anything is the true heart and soul of this series, it is definitely the relationships the cast all share and it does an excellent job of helping the audience care about them. It doesn’t have to be the relationship between Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, or with Levi and Erwin. This expands to the antagonists with Reinhardt, Bertolt, and Zeke as well. You see how strong the bonds are between all the relationships and ironically, these bonds also create conflicts in the aftermath of the big battle of this season that will leave your heart shattered into pieces.

Why You Should Skip Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2 (Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2)

1. Too Short

Quite honestly, this installment is just way too short with only 10 episodes. Considering that the anime has yet to catch up with the manga, we feel that this could have used maybe 10 or 12 more episodes, and we could have waited another year for the next installment to conclude the series. We understand that they don’t want to catch up to the manga, but a few more episodes to extend the season just a bit more wouldn’t hurt. We suppose we can wait another year for the next season and watch them consecutively as a binge watch.

2. No Hyde and Yoshiki in the Soundtrack

We’re not trying to take away anything from the present opening theme to this season, but Red Swan from the previous season in combination with the talents of the greatest musicians in modern Japanese history was certainly a nice change. OK, maybe the series didn’t have to use Red Swan, but the present opening theme has been done before and for a lot of viewers, that’s ok. However, it would have been nice if Yoshiki and Hyde collaborated again for a new opening, or an insert track for this part of the season as well.

Final Thoughts

Even though the manga has yet to end, Isayama already has an ending drawn and planned out. Heck, there was already an exhibition that gives an audio description to what the ending is in Tokyo. In a documentary that aired a little over a year ago, it also showed the final panel he has pencilled so thankfully, a last season can give us the ending Isayama is aiming for. This season has shown and told us so much of the world our heroes live in, and the next question (unless we read the manga) is how do they deal with it? Can they bring things back to normal and can everyone live in harmony? That we have yet to see in anime form, so we can wait until October 2020, or read the manga.
