10 Most Powerful Battle Suits In DC Comics, Ranked | CBR

Advertisemen

Over the years, comic book heroes have needed a little extra help from time to time in order to overcome the challenge at hand. While an assist from allies is common, modifications to their suit has, at times, proven to be equally effective. Many classic characters have undergone a suit change, be it for cosmetic reasons or practical reasons, yet some are certainly more useful than others. In regards to the DC Universe, even characters who aren’t Batman have modified their suit to help boost their abilities in some way. To take a closer look at how these modifications to classic suits and characters have had an impact, here is our list of the 10 most powerful battle suits in DC Comics.

10 Green Lantern’s

Green Lantern’s armor is a bit of a stretch, as it isn’t exactly real armor. Instead, it is a synthetic construct derived of the will power that he puts into his ring. However, the armor itself still add extra protection and can be used offensively as well.

In the past, a variety of lanterns have constructed armor around themselves to add protection or give them a boost in a time of need. There has rarely been a repeat of the same armor constructed from a Green Lantern Ring, giving each armor a unique design and purpose.

9 Superman Blue

Back in the day, Superman traded in his classic suit for a nice blue and white one. The Blue suit used by Superman is unique in that it didn’t really enhance his powers. Instead, it altered them, giving him entirely new abilities at the cost of what he is used to. For example, Clark was given the ability to turn his powers off, making him a completely vulnerable human if he so wished. He could also absorb energy, and was even shown to absorb radiation. Though he did lose his heat vision, he gained a sort of magnetic vision that could attract/repel metal objects. Though this suit is not the most powerful suit on this list, it still certainly had its own twists on a classic character.

8 Golden Eagle Armor

Wonder Woman’s Golden Eagle Armor is likely her most famous battle suit. The look of the armor is so distinct and iconic, that a version of it appears on the new poster for the upcoming Wonder Woman: 1984 film. However, the suit does very little to assist Wonder Woman aside from being a cosmetic change.

Diana typically dons the suit as a means of honoring her Amazonian heritage. That’s not to say that the armor is completely useless though. It was still made from rare Amazonian steel, making it one of the more durable metals within the DC Universe. Hence, there is still the added bonus of protection.

7 Justice Armors

Justice is a popular Justice League story by Jim Kreuger and illustrated by Alex Ross. After the whole Justice League is taken out by a group of villains who have banded together, the League must find a way to make the ultimate comeback.

For added protection, each remaining/recovering member dons a new suit of armor. Nowadays, these suits can easily come across as dated. However, that doesn’t change the fact they proved to be incredibly useful against some of the League’s most dangerous foes.

6 Steel

Steel first donned his armor following the popular Death of Superman storyline. When the world was left without a Superman, Steel was one of the four individuals to step up and use his talents to try to help people. He was also the only one of the four new Supermen to never claim to be the Man of Steel himself. Steel’s suit covers his entire body in a hard, metal case that also amplifies his strength and even gives him the ability to fly. Unlike some of the other armors on this list, Steel’s was not only designed by John Henry Irons himself, but also gives him, a person without any super abilities of his own, powers that mimic those of Superman. As such, Steel’s armor has proven to be incredibly powerful, only growing stronger over the years.

5 Thrasher Suit

The Thrasher Suit is a massive suit of armor that was designed by Bruce Wayne. During the New 52, Bruce first donned this suit to take on an army of Talons from the deadly Court of Owls. For those unfamiliar, Talons are age-old, highly trained assassins who are incredibly difficult to knock down. One Talon alone was almost able to kill Batman.

Therefore, when an army of Talons appeared at his doorstep, Batman knew he would need something to give him an edge. The Thrasher Suit is so big and powerful that it was able to successfully hold off an entire army of these deadly assassins, making it one of the strongest and most durable armors that Batman has yet to produce.

4 Dark Knight Returns

Batman’s suit at the end of The Dark Knight Returns is one of the most famous suits the Dark Knight has ever donned. The suit is so popular, a loose interpretation of it even appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). The suit was built for Batman to take on the likes of Superman. While it increased Bruce’s strength and durability, it also monitored his vitals and sent information to the Batcave. Though the Dark Knight has had some stronger suits over the years, the fact that this suit nearly put Superman down still shows just how powerful it is.

3 Luthor’s Armor

Even stronger than Batman’s armor in the Dark Knight Returns is the average armor that Lex Luthor wears. Luthor’s suit is not only designed to protect him from Superman, but also do great harm to the Man of Steel. Luthor’s armor is equipped with some of the most advanced technology and weaponry available.

Over the years, it has done a significant amount of damage to Superman in some form or fashion. At one point, Lex evolved the armor to the point where it mimicked Superman’s abilities. In calling himself Superman, Lex’s suit, combined with the power he had from his company, made him one of the most powerful men on the planet.

2 Justice Buster

Similar to Batman’s Thrasher Suit, the Justice Buster also appeared during the New 52 Batman run. Originally, it was actually a mech suit built by the Court of Owls that had been modified by Bruce to be all the more deadly. The Justice Buster is so powerful and well equipped that it took down the entirety of the Justice League with the exception of Superman.

With the aid of this suit, Batman had no trouble knocking down the likes of Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg and Wonder Woman. Furthermore, this suit was still able to hold Superman off for a time, though he would be the only one to actually break through the suit’s defenses. Any suit strong enough to take down almost the entirety of the Justice League has to be one of the most powerful suits in all of comics.

1 Hellbat Armor

No armor has proven to be stronger than Batman’s Hellbat Armor. Following the death of Damian Wayne, Batman learns that he can save his son if he rescues his body from the clutches of Darkseid. In order to do so, however, Batman must travel to Apokolips, Darkseid’s kingdom and the definition of hell for many. The Hellbat suit was forged for a purpose much like this one. With the help of other members of the Justice League, Batman’s Hellbat armor was forged using nanotechnology that dramatically increases his strength and stamina. However, the suit also drains Bruce’s metabolism and can be fatal if he over exerts himself. With the ability to fly, turn invisible, increase his strength, morph and much more, the Hellbat armor is easily one of the most powerful suits ever worn in all of DC history.
