The best love stories are built on blood, tears, and sweat. Romance is an ongoing battle between two parties driven by similar but utterly conflicting goals. Overflowing with hormones, teenagers have it the worst, as they try to comprehend why another person’s presence triggers instantaneous heart palpitations and a striking inability to string words together in anything resembling a coherent sentence. On the surface, Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen might seem like your typical slice of life comedy about a high school's quirky student council members. Well, prepare thyself for a rude awakening, as A-1 pictures' 2019 anime is a war drama packed with grueling battles resulting in immeasurable casualties. Kaguya-sama is not for the faint of heart! Hailing from opposite sides of the track but equally brilliant, the student council's Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are admired by their peers, with many assuming the two are dating. While the teenagers share a mutual attraction, Kaguya and Miyuki are stuck in a seemingly ceaseless battle of wits to determine who will be the first to crack and confess. Along with often carrying complications, love can also be stupid and petty! Injecting the rom-com genre with a hint of psychological warfare, Kaguya-sama chronicles the daily antics of a couple so perfect for each other, they cannot help believe something is amiss! For those who appreciate Kaguya-sama: Love is War’s star-crossed lovers and sense of humor, here are six similar anime worth watching.
Similar Anime to Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen / Similar Anime to Kaguya-sama: Love is War
1. Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san (Teasing Master Takagi-san)
Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san's premise is basically identical to Kaguya-sama: Love is War, although the former opts for a more laid-back tone than the latter. Takagi knows Nishikata like the back of her hand and the girl uses this boundless reservoir of knowledge to subject her classmate to relentless rounds of teasing. Now, in all fairness, Nishikata regularly tries to repay the favor, but Takagi's powers are frankly too overpowering for the lad. While Teasing Master Takagi-san does not hide the fact Takagi has a crush on Nishikata, the anime prefers to take a slightly more subtle approach than Kaguya-sama. Takagi's impressive ability to accurately predict Nishikata's comebacks stems from genuine affection. Initially, their interactions can be written off as Takagi essentially bullying a decidedly weaker classmate, but it quickly becomes apparent that the girl pays close attention to every single act committed by Nishikata. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen's comedy is slightly more energetic and exaggerated, but both series revolve around an enamored duo who exercise a roundabout way to express their feelings.

2. Tonari no Seki-kun (Tonari no Seki-kun: The Master of Killing Time)
Most people have those certain activities designed solely to pass the time. Whether waiting for the clock to run out at school, work, or on the train home; occasionally, a break is required to decompress the mind and find a second wind. Tonari no Seki-kun is an anime about these brief moments of escapism. Based on a manga by Takuma Morishige, Tonari no Seki-kun principally centers around the easily amused Seki and the unfortunate girl who happens to sit next to him in class. Rather than pay attention to the teacher, Seki devotes his time and attention to various distractions, with each one being more absurd than the last. Conversely, Yokoi is a normal student whose curiosity cannot help be piqued by Seki's weird ventures. Split into 21 short episodes, Tonari no Seki-kun's segments typically adhere to a basic formula; a determined Yokoi refuses to be distracted by Seki, the boy does something outrageous, Yokoi is inadvertently distracted by Seki. While romance never comes into play, Tonari no Seki-kun is worth a watch for anyone who appreciates Kaguya-sama: Love is War's constant battles of wits.

3. Masamune-kun no Revenge (Masamune-kun's Revenge)
Masamune-kun no Revenge's characters are kind of the worst. They are incredibly entertaining and often hilarious, but these teenagers embody some of the most detestable traits associated with their age group. While idolizing Masamune-kun no Revenge's characters might not be advisable, there is nothing wrong with laughing at their deplorable actions! As an overweight child, Makabe Masamune was relentlessly bullied by many of his peers, particularly a rich and attractive girl named Aki. After leaving the school and hitting the gym, a sexy version of Masamune returns to the scene of the crime to exact revenge on those who previously wronged him. Masamune's plan is simple; seduce and dump Aki! Putting aside the anime's basic premise, Masamune-kun's Revenge is primarily a romance centering around a potential couple who walk the line between love and hate. Makabe's schemes remain prevalent throughout the majority of the series, but Aki and some of the other side-characters are more than capable of pulling off their share of mind games!

4. Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet (Boarding School Juliet)
Setting aside the main characters' names, Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet has virtually nothing in common with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet; nevertheless, there is a lot to admire about LIDENFILMS' quirky action-comedy! Seeking to forge a new era of peace, Dahlia Academy Boarding School accepts students from two opposing countries named the Nation of Touwa (Black Doggies) and the Principality of West (White Cats). Led by Inuzuka and Persia respectively, the countries' students are stuck in a perpetual state of strife, resulting in daily brawls to determine the campus' ruling group! Publicly, Inuzuka and Persia pretend to hate each other's guts. In reality, the dorm leaders are secretly in love and yearn for a day when the Black Dogs and White Cats succeed in moving past their differences. Kaguya-sama:Love is War’s main couple instigate most battles; conversely, Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet's leading pair are fighting society rather than each other. As a school battle anime, Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet boasts a likable enough cast to make the premise work. While Kaguya-sama's conflicts are psychological and cerebral, Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet's battles opt for a more physical approach!

5. High Score Girl
Rather than a battle of willpower and brains, High Score Girl throws a mismatched pair into an arcade and tells them to go at it! At the expense of his academic development, Haruo Yaguchi has devoted his entire existence to gaming. When not playing Street Fighter II, Haruo is thinking about playing Street Fighter II. On the surface, the seemingly perfect Akira Oono is Haruo's direct opposite. Born to a rich estate, the reserved Akira's time is monopolized by her family, who seldom provide the girl with a chance to enjoy her childhood. Arcades present an escape from this reality. One random afternoon, Haruo stumbles across Akira playing Street Fighter II in an arcade. In a misguided attempt to protect the game room's sanctuary, the boy repeatedly challenges the girl to a series of matches. Unfortunately for Haruo, Akira knows a thing or two about games and proves to be more than a match for her opponent. What starts out as a heated rivalry between two kids with wildly divergent futures, gradually morphs into something resembling a friendship! While Kaguya-sama: Love is War's contests primarily serve to keep Kaguya and Miyuki apart, High Score Girl's battles bring Akira and Haruo closer together.

6. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun)
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen's central conflict stems from a misunderstanding between Kaguya and Miyuki. Due to neither member having the courage to verbalize their desires, the protagonists are caught in a vicious cycle of rebuffed hints and sly misdirections. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun's premise is somewhat similar, just with one half of the couple being completely oblivious to the other's advancements. The earnest Chiyo Sakura develops a crush on Umetarou Nozaki, who happens to work as a mangaka. After finally gaining the courage to confess her feelings, Chiyo unwittingly finds herself employed as Nozaki's manga assistant, who mistakes the girl's declaration of love as admiration for his writing. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun ponders whether there is such a thing as too oblivious! Like Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen, the romance aspect is used to facilitate the comedy, with the anime maintaining its lighthearted tone throughout its entire run!

Final Thoughts
The journey tends to be more entertaining than the destination, and love is no exception! Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen pits Kaguya and Miyuki in a heated contest to outwit their opponent, even if a mutual surrender would be the best outcome for the couple. While waiting for the next battle, these six anime should fill the void left by A-1 Pictures' anime! Is there any other anime that you would recommend for fans of Kaguya-sama: Love is War?
