Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai Introduction and Story (Spoilers)

In case you didn’t know, Japan has a fascination with little sisters. In anime, they’re cute girls which seemingly only have eyes for their older brothers and defend them from other girls with great jealousy. Yes, incest is illegal in Japan, like everywhere else, but if you ask the right anime fan that only increases the charm. Struggling light novel writer Nagami Yuu is your typical older brother who harbors no romantic intentions towards his sister, but the reverse is not true. His sister Suzuka is deeply in love with him and has released a book under his name which details her ideal love affair between the two. Now Yuu has to pretend to be an author of a book he didn’t write while trying to deal with the new attention and ramifications of releasing this kind of book. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

What We Liked About Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai (My Sister, My Writer)

The premise, execution, and starring cast of My Sister, My Writer is obscenely insane. Anime isn’t supposed to be realistic, and this show doesn’t at all try to be. You have Suzuka’s over the top onii-chan love, rival writer Mai’s obsession with Yuu’s newfound success trying to improve her own work, and a busty hentai doujinshi artist literally named Ahegao Double Peace Sensei. We probably wouldn’t have been able to make it through this one at all if it hadn’t tried to be completely over the top.

Why You Should Watch Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai

If you’ve watched Oreimo, Imouto Sae Ireba Ii, or Eromanga-sensei, you already know the drill. There’s something captivating about watching the logic behind the main characters’ decisions in these shows. They either start out completely sane and rational and begin to devolve, or somehow turn from insane to sane before our eyes. More often than not it’s something like watching a car wreck, you just can’t look away. To be honest, this show isn’t anywhere close to the other three mentioned anime, but it was something we kept watching just because we had to see how it ended.

Why You Should Skip Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai (My Sister, My Writer)

To put it bluntly, nothing is good about this anime. The animation is horrible, the story is uninspiredly capitalizing on Japan’s obsession with incest, and it doesn’t really adhere to its own logic most of the time. It’s likely that only 1 out of 20 viewers will make it to episode 10. It’s got nothing going for it, other than the fact that it’s completely ridiculous.

Final Thoughts

We never finished an anime quite like My Sister, My Writer. It definitely ranks down with some of the strangest shows we’ve seen. If you watched it, what did you think of it? Let us know in the comments.
